Sebastian Hofmann is an acclaimed filmmaker whose works have been featured at renowned festivals such as the Rotterdam Tiger Awards, San Sebastian, Locarno, Fantastic Fest, and Sundance. His latest feature, 'Tiempo Compartido,' earned him the jury prize for Best Screenwriting at Sundance and was recognized by Hollywood Reporter as a "Talent to Watch." The film received five nominations at the Mexican Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Script, and won two Ariel awards for acting. Following a successful theatrical release in Mexico, it was later launched worldwide as a Netflix Original.
His debut feature, Halley, was selected for over 60 festivals and won 15 international awards, including the Cinevision Award at the Munich Film Festival, the Noves Visions Award at Sitges Fantastic Film Festival, and Best Film at the London East End Film Festival. In 2013, Halley enjoyed a successful run in Mexican cinemas and was sold to more than 60 countries through the AMC/Sundance Channel. The film was co-produced by Mantarraya, a prominent production company known for the works of Carlos Reygadas and Amat Escalante. Sebastian has been awarded the Hubert Bals Fund twice and received support from the Netherlands Film Fund once.
In 2011, he co-founded PIANO with producer Julio Chavezmontes as a platform for innovative cinematic projects. In 2018, PIANO had a feature film in the official competition sections of Sundance, Berlin, Cannes, Toronto, and Venice. In 2021, PIANO planned to release 'Annette' by Leos Carax starring Adam Driver, 'Siberia' by Abel Ferrara featuring Willem Dafoe, and 'Memoria' by Apichatpong Weerasethakul starring Tilda Swinton.
Sebastian holds a B.F.A. from the prestigious Pasadena Art Center College of Design and completed a masterclass in screenwriting with Todd Solondz in 2006. He is represented by the WME agency and managed by Grandview LA.
