Carly Brook Schroeder is an actress, animal rights advocate, environmentalist, and nutrition enthusiast, recognized for her roles in Gracie (2007), Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire (2001), and General Hospital (1963).
Born on October 18, 1990, in Valparaiso, Indiana, Schroeder began her career in print modeling at age three and started appearing in commercials at six.
In 1997, she was cast as Serena Baldwin on Port Charles (1997), a General Hospital spin-off, appearing in 480 episodes over six years. Her performance earned her Young Artist Award nominations in 1999 and 2000, as well as a 1999 Young Star Award nomination for Best Performance by a Young Actress in a Daytime TV Program.
Schroeder has also appeared in multiple TV shows and movies. In 2002, she secured the role of Melina Bianco on Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire (2001) and appeared in The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003).
Her debut feature film, Mean Creek (2004), garnered critical acclaim, winning the Humanitas Prize at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and the 2005 Independent Spirit Festival Special Distinction Award for best ensemble cast. She also appeared in Firewall (2006), alongside Harrison Ford, and Eye of the Dolphin (2006).
A passionate soccer player since age five, Schroeder combined her love of the sport and acting in Gracie (2007). To prepare for the role, she underwent a rigorous three-month training regimen with professional athletes, which inspired her to adopt a health-conscious lifestyle.
While Gracie was in theaters, Eye of the Dolphin (2006) earned two honors at the 2007 International Family Film Festival: Best Child Actor for Schroeder and Drama Feature for the film. Her recent work includes Prep School (2015) and One of Us (2017). She won Best Actress for portraying Kyra in Prep School at the 2016 Studio City Film Festival.
Her early involvement with the Humane Society and Meals on Wheels in 2004 sparked her passion for travel. By college, Schroeder had visited 20 states and 11 countries. As of 2018, she has 16 film credits, including Ouija House (2018) and Deadly Shores. She has also undergone small arms weapons training.
Schroeder graduated from California Lutheran University in 2013 and pursued further studies in nutrition and holistic care. Committed to a healthier lifestyle, she eliminated meat, dairy, gluten, and refined sugars in favor of a plant-based diet. Accompanied by her dog Jax, she enjoys outdoor activities such as climbing, backpacking, marathon running, snowboarding, and surfing.
In January 2019, Carly took the oath to attend officer candidate school, commissioning as an officer in the US Army.
