Viktor Sergachev is a Russian actor affiliated with the Moscow Art Theatre (MKhAT).
Born Viktor Nikolaevich Sergachev on November 24, 1934, in Borzya, Chita province, Siberian Russia, Soviet Union (now Russia), he came from a working-class Russian family. As a youth, Sergachev developed a passion for theatre and participated in his school's amateur drama club. Between 1953 and 1956, he studied acting under Pavel Massalsky at the Moscow Art Theatre School of Acting, graduating in 1956. He made his film debut in 1962 with Uvolnenie na bereg and Konets sveta.
In 1956, Sergachev became a founding member of the Sovremennik theatre company alongside Oleg Efremov. From 1957 to 1971, he was a permanent member of Sovremennik's troupe in Moscow, sharing the stage with actors such as Oleg Efremov, Evgeniy Evstigneev, Galina Volchek, Stanislav Lyubshin, Andrey Myagkov, Vladimir Kashpur, Alla Pokrovskaya, Oleg Tabakov, Oleg Dal, Igor Kvasha, and Valentin Gaft. During his time there, Sergachev excelled in Anton Chekhov’s works, including Ivanov, Chaika (The Seagull), Dyadya Vanya (Uncle Vanya), and Vishnevy sad (The Cherry Orchard). Notable roles included the Minister of Tender Feelings in Golyy Korol (The Naked King), a Soviet adaptation of The Emperor's New Clothes, and Kleshch in Maxim Gorky's Na dne (The Lower Depths).
Since 1971, Sergachev has been a permanent member of the Moscow Art Theatre troupe. His stage partners have included renowned actors such as Anatoli Ktorov, Olga Androvskaya, Angelina Stepanova, Mikhail Yanshin, Aleksey Gribov, Boris Livanov, Mikhail Kedrov, Mark Prudkin, Anastasiya Georgievskaya, Vasili Toporkov, Mikhail Bolduman, Pavel Massalsky, as well as the next generation of MKhAT actors like Oleg Efremov, Tatyana Doronina, Innokentiy Smoktunovskiy, Oleg Tabakov, Kristina Babushkina, Alla Pokrovskaya, Kira Golovko, Tatyana Lavrova, Iya Savvina, Nina Gulyaeva, Elena Panova, Darya Moroz, Olga Litvinova, Natalya Rogozhkina, Ekaterina Semyonova, Olga Yakovleva, Anastasiya Voznesenskaya, Irina Miroshnichenko, Evgeniya Dobrovolskaya, Andrey Myagkov, Stanislav Lyubshin, Vladimir Kashpur, Vyacheslav Nevinnyy, Evgeniy Kindinov, Vladimir Krasnov, Dmitriy Nazarov, Sergey Sazontev, Avangard Leontev, Igor Vasilev, Igor Vernik, Sergei Sosnovsky, Mikhail Porechenkov, Konstantin Khabenskiy, Valeri Khlevinsky, Valeriy Troshin, Mikhail Trukhin, Eduard Chekmazov, Aleksey Kravchenko, Aleksei Agapov, and Evgeniy Mironov among others. Viktor Sergachev has been honored with the title of People's Artist of Russia and has directed several productions at the Moscow Art Theatre. He is married to Bulgarian philologist Vanya Sergacheva, and they have two daughters. The family resides in Moscow, Russia.
