Robert Crayton is an American actor from Brooklyn, New York. From a young age, he participated in performances such as "Mr. Bojangles," choir singing, small films, plays, and entertaining family at reunions. His acting debut was on Tru TV as "Tank" in Southern Fried Stings (2010). His film and television credits include Let the Church Say Amen (2013), The Quad (2017), Wu-Tang: An American Saga (2019), The I Ching Lawyer (2020), Murdersville, USA (2021), Dark Awakening (2014), Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016), and History Detectives (2003).
He attended a prep school in upstate New York, where he excelled in sports and began performing in skits and comedy. He enjoyed dorm life, feeling like college before being of age, but left after two years citing experiences of racism. Known as a class clown, he was voted most likely to become an actor and was frequently sought after for school media projects involving impersonations and characters. During this period, he developed a passion for rapping, especially freestyle, influenced by his grandmother’s rigorous method of memorizing 300 words along with their spelling and meaning before being allowed to play in the summer. Though he disliked this then, he acknowledged its benefits later. His rapping led to performances on BET's 106 & Park and opening for BET Comics, earning cash prizes, recording contracts, and features on compilation albums. Additionally, he had a strong ability to memorize anything he saw or heard, which he considered a valuable skill for acting. He always enjoyed entertaining others. He also worked as a youth counselor, appreciating the daily challenges of engaging with children of diverse personalities and helping them.
Following a struggle with mental illness, on January 7, 2023, Crayton killed his wife and three children at their home in High Point, North Carolina, before taking his own life. Authorities had visited the home five times since 2014, but Crayton was never arrested.
