Biografia
Alexis Rene Garcia, professionally known as Naheem Garcia, has dedicated thirty years to acting and theatre education. Originally from Cuba, he moved to Boston in 1968 with his mother, grandmother, and aunt. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Naheem is recognized for his rich, melodious voice. He received formal theater training at the New African Company, where he has served as a Distinguished Artist-In-Residence since 2004.
Naheem founded NG edutainment, an arts and education program based in Boston, Massachusetts, where he is the lead teaching artist. For nearly three decades, he has also been a teaching artist with the Huntington Theatre Company's Education Department. He previously served as a speaker for the METCO Program at Sharon High School in Sharon, MA, and currently conducts workshops for the Boston Police Department’s youth initiative, Acting Up With the 5-0. Additionally, he is an adjunct professor at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. Naheem is a longtime member of AFTRA-SAG New England, the Artistic Director of the Oversoul Theatre Collective, and serves on the Board of Directors for Song Keepers, LTD.
Naheem’s contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the Brown Sugar Culture Excellence Award (2021), the State Street-El Planeta Powermeter 100 Most Influential Latinx (2014), and the OrigiNation Cultural Arts Center Sojourner Truth Award (2007). In 2017, he represented the Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation at the NeighborWorks American and Community Leadership Institute in Los Angeles, California. That same year, he completed the Aesthetic Education Immersion program at the Lincoln Center Summer Forum at Juilliard in New York City. Naheem continues to pursue his career as an actor and theatre educator, committed to representing and inspiring youth and audiences through his work.
