Biografia
Paola is a drama/dramedy writer born and raised on the Tijuana/San Diego border, between its two cultures, where Spanglish is the official language, and a mac n' cheese burrito is the national dish. An empath, born into a rowdy family of doctors who expected the same from her, she gained the courage to rebel against her destiny after beating all odds and surviving a brain surgery before she even had her first kiss. She's wholeheartedly pursued her own passions ever since, writing stories like her own, that focus on character, often featuring underdogs who defy expectations, while blending elements that don't usually go together, and exploring the heartbreak and hilarity that is found in all types of family - both blood, and found.
She wrote and directed several creative films while studying in Mexico and Prague, and after graduating from American University's School of Communications, she worked her way up to Supervising Story Producer in the world of unscripted television in New York City. She wrote and crafted story in shows such as What Not to Wear, Made In Chelsea, Ink Master, and the Emmy-winning The Singles Project, while also writing and directing scripted comedy web series, live comedy shows, and short documentaries. Since moving to Los Angeles and into scripted work, she most recently wrote for ABC's Home Economics and developed an hour-long medical drama with Universal TV - making her family extra proud! Previously, she worked on many hit series including as a Writers' Assistant for Netflix's AWAY and Apple TV+'s Acapulco, as Script Coordinator for Shonda Rhimes' Inventing Anna, and as Showrunner's Assistant for Jessica Goldberg on The Path. Among her honors are being selected for the 2020 National Hispanic Media Coalition Fellowship, the 2021 Disney Writing Program, and the 2023 Rideback Circle for BIPOC creators.
Every moment of flourishing through all of life's valleys to see the peaks has made her a relentless optimist, and having to quickly adapt to new experiences has set her up for her current most exciting adventure and inspiration: a baby boy named Rafi.
