Biografia
Matthew is an actor, audition coach, on-set acting coach, teacher, and guest lecturer who works with a diverse range of clients worldwide.
Since 1996, Matthew has taught at acting schools and studios, developing a unique and comprehensive technique alongside a professional philosophy now known as the Actor's Foundry. His approach centers on self-awareness as the foundation for ego-free acting and clear storytelling, earning him a dedicated following of working actors. Emphasizing collaboration over conflict and community over competition, Matthew has built a strong base for actors within the Actor's Foundry, a comprehensive professional facility.
His insights and viewpoints are shared through essays that originated from his pre-class talks, humorously called "sermons" by his students. These essays have gained recognition and circulated widely online.
Originally from Montreal, Matthew began his career in politics before transitioning to the arts as a writing assistant to award-winning American playwright Frederick Douglas Ward. He continued his arts education at New York’s prestigious Neighborhood Playhouse Theater School from 1991 to 1995. After completing the intensive two-year training, he joined the National Theater of the Performing Arts and toured the United States twice. Two years in regional theater led him to Seattle, where he portrayed Hamlet at the Washington Shakespeare Festival. He has since maintained an extensive acting career on stages across North America.
His film and television credits include roles in Thirteen Ghosts, Romeo Must Die, The House Next Door, The Watchmen, Downloading Nancy, Destination Infestation, The Last Trimester, Vivid Dreams, Tornado Warning, and Judicial Indiscretion opposite Anne Archer. His numerous TV guest appearances feature recent roles on Reaper, Smallville, Supernatural, Tru Calling, Stargate, Stargate: Atlantis, The 4400, Reunion, and a recurring role on the Canadian series Godiva's. Matthew’s comedic and improv talents were showcased as the Neanderthal Man in Night At The Museum and Night At The Museum 2: Battle For The Smithsonian alongside Ben Stiller and Robin Williams.
Advocating what he calls "Professional Creativity," Matthew often supports his clients' self-initiated projects as director, producer, sponsor, and coach. In this role, he has directed several web episodics, short films, plays, stage presentations, and scene nights. He has also helmed numerous successful theater productions in New York, Los Angeles, and Vancouver.
