Biografia
Matthew LaBanca is an actor, writer, musician, educator, and solo performer based in New York City. Raised in a close-knit Italian-American family in Connecticut, he developed an early love of music, storytelling, and community that continues to shape his work.
Matthew made his Broadway debut in the original company of Young Frankenstein, where he covered the title role, and later appeared in White Christmas and the Tony Award-winning production of A Christmas Carol. His television credits include Severance, The Spot, Broad City, 30 Rock, MTV's Made, and Live from Lincoln Center.
As a writer and performer, Matthew created the award-winning solo show Good Enough, which won Best Musical at the United Solo Festival in 2014. His most recent work, Communion, premiered Off-Broadway at the cell theatre in 2024. Inspired by his experience of being terminated by the Diocese of Brooklyn after marrying his husband, the piece explores faith, family, identity, and belonging. The production has since toured nationally and been adapted for film.
In addition to his performing career, Matthew is a New York City public school music teacher. Across his work on stage, screen, and in the classroom, he is drawn to stories that foster empathy, dialogue, and human connection.
