Biografia
Michael Coleman, an award-winning actor, writer, and comedian, began performing professional stand-up, sketch, and improv comedy at local venues and clubs during his final years of high school. A memorable conversation with Robin Williams, who was backstage at a local stand-up club while filming Jumanji (1995), inspired Michael to pursue his career full-time, a decision for which he remains deeply grateful.
Michael made his major TV debut as Howard Gordon on Chris Carter’s series Millennium (1996). The character symbolized a farewell to The X-Files (1993), another Chris Carter creation, as the real-life producer Howard Gordon was transitioning to develop Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997).
Known for his character-driven performances, Michael has secured memorable roles in series such as Once Upon a Time (2011), Stargate SG-1 (1997), Stargate: Atlantis (2004), Smallville (2001), Fringe (2008), X-Men: Evolution (2000), Dragon Ball Z (1996), Hello Kitty's Paradise (2000), Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (2004), MegaMan: NT Warrior (2002), Hellsing Ultimate (2006), Inuyasha (2000), Hamtaro (2000), and numerous other animated and live-action productions.
37-Teen (2019), released in spring 2020, is the inaugural project from Michael’s production company, Rebel West Pictures. He wrote and starred in this comedy feature film, which was distributed by Comedy Dynamics. His feature film writing and directorial debut, Best Day Ever: Aiden Kesler 1994-2011 (2012), received critical acclaim. Rebel West Pictures currently has several films and television series in various stages of production and development, including Under the Influence, a new series starring and written by Michael.
Michael also writes and stars in the absurd, modern sitcom Hipsterverse (2019) and has multiple film, television, and animation scripts in development.
He is actively involved with numerous charities and community organizations, regularly contributing to and advocating for the BC Children’s Hospital (where he spent part of his childhood), Inflammatory Bowel Disease, BC Cancer Foundation, ALS Foundation, GBS, Stigma Fighters (mental health awareness), Women in Film, and most recently, DTES, a charity supporting women and children in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Michael was recently appointed as the youth spokesperson for Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare condition.
Michael is also the founder of Story Institute, a post-secondary school where actors and writers train to become professionals in the film and television industry.
