Hugh’s career began in Pittsburgh where he produced and directed MISTER ROGERS NEIGHBORHOOD. He later moved to New York City where he began directing live television drama.
His career expanded to include film, episodic television, sitcoms, soap operas and documentary productions. Hugh has had the privilege of working with talented performers such as John C. Reilly, Lily Tomlin, Tyne Daly, LeVar Burton, Jeff Goldblum, Seth Green, and Kermit the Frog. He co-wrote and Executive Produced the feature film DOGBOYS for Showtime starring Tia Carrere, Bryant Brown, and Dean Cain. Other clients include: ABC, NBC, PBS, BBC, Comcast, Comedy Central, Disney, Nickelodeon, Viacom, Hasbro, Scholastic, Sesame Workshop, Sixteen South, Sid and Marty Krofft Pictures, and The Jim Henson Company.
Hugh has directed many of the most outstanding children’s award winning series in television: THE PAJANIMALS, JOHNNY AND THE SPRITES, BEAR AND THE BIG BLUE HOUSE, THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS, WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CARMEN SANDIEGO, SUPER SLOPPY DOUBLE DARE, and READING RAINBOW. He is a pioneer in the field of motion capture real-time animation directing JAY JAY THE JET PLANE and the innovative performance capture animated series SID THE SCIENCE KID and SPLASH AND BUBBLES produced by The Jim Henson Digital Puppetry Studio.
Martin isn't limited to working in the U.S. Holding dual citizenship (U.S/Ireland), he directed in Belfast, Northern Ireland on the popular NBC/Universal Kids series THE PAJANIMALS produced by Sixteen South and The Jim Henson Company.
After completing production on Nick Jr.'s live-action series MUTT & STUFF produced by the legendary Sid and Marty Krofft Pictures, Hugh directed two one-hour MUTT AND STUFF specials starring David Arquette and Randy Jackson. He then went on to direct the Nickelodeon pilot MAYIM'S WONDERLAB starring Mayim Bialik from THE BIG BANG THEORY.
Martin also directed on the BBC children's series MOON AND ME from Andrew Davenport, the creator of TELETUBBIES. He directed on the original and recent reboot of CRANK YANKERS for Comedy Central.
