Yurou (Selina) Zhang Founder & Head of Creative, Turtle Media
Yurou "Selina" Zhang is an award-winning Chinese-Australian filmmaker, director, writer, and producer based in Melbourne, Australia since 2013. She is the Founder and Head of Creative of Turtle Media, a Melbourne-based studio specialising in the development and production of premium vertical microdramas for global audiences. Selina is a member of the Australian Directors’ Guild (ADG) and holds a Bachelor of Film and Television from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), University of Melbourne, graduating in 2019.
Her creative work is driven by culturally resonant storytelling, emotional accessibility, and a commitment to bringing diverse voices and social experiences to screen. She has written, directed, and produced independent films, web series, commercials, and internationally distributed vertical dramas, with a particular focus on creating compelling, audience-first stories for the global English-language market.
Under Selina’s creative leadership, Turtle Media has developed and produced English-language vertical dramas including Fake It Till We Make It, Light My Fire, A Deal With the Hockey Captain, and Maybe This Time. The studio’s work has been released across DramaBox, MiniShort, KalosTV, DramaWave, SodaTV, and ShortMax. Light My Fire has generated more than 27 million views on TikTok, while Turtle Media’s titles have achieved multi-million global viewership and million-dollar-level commercial returns.
Fake It Till We Make It, adapted from ByteDance's overseas web novel IP "Faking It with Damian Black", became one of the most popular titles on the platform. Turtle Media is also a TikTok for Business short-drama production service partner in Oceania and was recognised as a 2024 TikTok for Business "Top Short Drama Production Service Provider."
Selina now leads Turtle Media’s continued expansion into both live-action and AIGC vertical drama development, combining high-concept storytelling, production-led script development, and international distribution strategy for platforms, distributors, and screen partners worldwide.
