Biografia
Born Eduardo Arroyuelo Woolrich in Mexico City, he hails from the ancestral Arroyuelo family of Spain and the British Woolrich lineage from the UK. He spent much of his life between the US and Mexico.
Now known simply as Arroyuelo Woolrich or Ed Woolrich, he began acting at age seven in a Levi's campaign. Over the following years, he appeared in numerous advertisements for nearly every major brand in Mexico City. During this time, he moved frequently—recalling more than 23 homes, including a beloved one in Monterey, California, where he lived with his mother, older brother, and sister. He regularly traveled between Mexico City and California. When high school arrived, he dedicated himself to formal acting training, nurturing his passion for theater and film. As he took on more serious acting roles, he pursued advanced studies in film and acting at NYU in New York, as well as in London and Los Angeles.
He produced and directed many conceptual films and videos for artists like Stephan Bruggemmann and Iñaki Bonillas, and collaborated with the Museum of Installation in London. He played an active role in the artistic flourishing of Mexico City's Colonia Condesa art movement around the turn of the millennium.
In theater, he made his mark in Mexico City's Off-Off theaters, portraying roles such as Picasso in Steve Martin's "Picasso at the Lapin Agile." In 2005, he won Best Actor for his role in Mark Ravenhill's "Some Explicit Polaroids." He later produced and directed plays including "Love and Human Remains," "The True Nature of Love," "Pizza Man," and "Beyond Therapy." With regular appearances on Mexican TV, he made a memorable film debut in Julian Schnabel's "Before Night Falls," playing a role that sent Reinaldo Arenas (portrayed by Javier Bardem) to a Cuban Communist prison. He also featured in the acclaimed Mexican hit "7 Dias," earning the Best Upcoming Film Actor Award from Mexico’s cinema journalists (Diosa de Plata) in 2006.
Following this, he received numerous awards for his work in films and series with HBO, Fox, and other major networks.
In 2014, he co-founded the production and content company Pictures of You, with Armando Herrera and Alejandro Díazayas, operating in Mexico, Spain, and California.
Under the pseudonym Ed Woolrich, he wrote feature screenplays within the Pictures of You ecosystem, including "Back in Black," "The Last Crash of D'ego," "La Innombrable," "Pictures of You" (the film), and "Underneath the Day."
His feature directorial and producing debut, "You Can't Always Get What You Want" (also known as YCAGWYW), was released in 2021.
He currently resides in California and Mexico City.
