Biografia
Jaime Velez-Soto is a producer, director, creator, and veteran television professional whose career has been built across the worlds of film, television, live sports, and entertainment. With more than two decades of experience behind the camera, his journey reflects an unconventional path driven by curiosity, adaptability, and a lifelong determination to turn ideas into something audiences can experience.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Velez-Soto moved to Florida as a teenager and began building a life defined by experiences far outside the traditional Hollywood playbook. Before establishing himself in entertainment, he served as a firefighter and performed as a knight at Medieval Times, where horseback riding, sword fighting, and live performance became part of an already unusual creative education.
His professional entertainment career began at Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando. Starting as an intern, Velez-Soto worked behind the scenes on productions including Double Dare 2000, Taina, Slime Time Live, G.A.S., and Noah Knows Best. During this period, he learned from established television directors and mentors including Kim Fields (Facts of Life, Living Single) and Chuck Vinson (Sesame Street, All That, Gullah Gullah Island). This experience helped shape his understanding of production, performance, collaboration, and visual storytelling.
His career continued into independent feature films, television pilots, and narrative production as an assistant director, producer, and director. His film credits include projects such as Rockabilly Zombie Weekend, Grace, and The Tenant, while his feature directorial work includes Turning Back, which not only secured a spot in the top ten on Christian movies, but also garnered multiple awards at film festivals worldwide.
Alongside director of photography Nick Woolfolk (All New Mickey Mouse Club, Tarzan: Epic Adventures, The Wayne Brady Show) Velez-Soto later directed all 26 episodes of Disney Channel’s "Game On!". A live-action-multi-camera comedy series. The series achieved a 36% increase in viewership among kids 8 to 14, ranked #1 in its time slot during its first four weeks and contributed to an 18% increase in channel viewership among kids 8-14.
That range of experience has become the foundation for his next chapter. Through JVS Creates, Velez-Soto develops original television concepts, films, unscripted formats, branded entertainment, and creative projects while collaborating with filmmakers, producers, networks, investors, and emerging creators.
His philosophy is rooted in the belief that great productions are built through collaboration, resourcefulness, and the willingness to carry an idea beyond the page. From the controlled chaos of live television to the deliberate craft of filmmaking, Jaime Velez-Soto continues to build a career without creative borders, developing stories, creating opportunities, and bringing ideas from script to screen.
