Emmy-winning and Grammy- and BAFTA-nominated composer Mac Quayle is renowned for his exceptional ability to craft immersive musical landscapes that engage audiences deeply. His unique compositional style has significantly influenced acclaimed series such as Mr. Robot, American Horror Story, and Leave the World Behind.
His forthcoming projects include Netflix's Monster: The Ed Gein Story, premiering October 3; ABC/Hulu's 9-1-1: Nashville, co-composed with Todd Haberman and Justin Barnett, premiering October 9; Netflix's His & Hers; and the second season of Apple TV+'s Dark Matter.
Mac’s collaboration with director and long-time partner Sam Esmail began with the Golden Globe-winning series Mr. Robot, earning him a Primetime Emmy. They reunited in 2022 for the mini-series Gaslit, starring Julia Roberts and Sean Penn, and again in 2023 for Leave the World Behind, featuring Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, and Ethan Hawke. His work with creator and director Ryan Murphy includes Pose, starring Billy Porter; 9-1-1, starring Angela Bassett, co-composed with Todd Haberman; 9-1-1: Lone Star, starring Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler, co-composed with Todd Haberman and Justin Burnett; The Politician, starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Platt; Ratched, starring Sarah Paulson; American Horror Story: Freak Show, which earned him an Emmy nomination; and Feud, garnering two additional Emmy nods.
Mac has composed music for more than 40 diverse films, television shows, and documentaries. Highlights include HBO’s documentary Surveilled, directed by Matthew O’Neill and Perri Peltz and featuring Ronan Farrow; HBO’s The Great Lillian Hall, directed by Michael Cristofer and starring Kathy Bates, Pierce Brosnan, and Jessica Lange; FX’s American Crime Story: Impeachment, starring Sarah Paulson, Annaleigh Ashford, and Sterling K. Brown; Matt Fuller’s documentary Autism in Love, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival; and more. His additional composer work with Cliff Martinez can be heard in HBO’s Emmy-winning The Normal Heart, as well as the award-winning films Drive, Contagion, and Spring Breakers.
As a producer, remixer, and keyboardist, Mac has contributed to over 300 releases, including 40 #1 Billboard Dance hits, and earned a Grammy nomination for producing Donna Summer’s “I Will Go with You.” He has received numerous Gold and Platinum records and collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Madonna, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Depeche Mode, Britney Spears, Elvis Presley, Annie Lennox, New Order, and Sting.
Reflecting on his career, Mac shared, “I have been very fortunate to work with so many talented people over the years. However, there is one special moment that stands out for me: playing ping pong with Peter Gabriel at Real World Studios.”
Mac lives, works, and enjoys ping pong in the mountains near Los Angeles.
