Jimmy McNichol, also known as James Vincent McNichol III, is an actor, musician, and environmental advocate. He is also a co-partner in the entertainment production company Playground Television, Inc.
McNichol gained international fame as a leading TV and film star, a teenage heartthrob, and one of the most popular actors in the entertainment industry from the late 1970s through the early 1990s. He still maintains a global fan base, with many young fans discovering his earlier work. Recently, McNichol was appointed celebrity spokesman for the nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization "Pet Power Kids."
In the past, McNichol graced numerous magazine covers and consistently starred in major TV shows and films. He headlined several network TV series and feature films created specifically for him, and even co-produced a CBS network variety special alongside producer Jerry Weintraub. He has collaborated with many Academy Award winners and nominees, including Jill Clayburgh, Shirley Knight, Richard Jaeckel, and Susan Tyrrell.
Together with Pet Power Kids, McNichol and Playground Television are developing a TV series called "Animal Rescue The Rockies," also known as "ARTR." This animal welfare show follows the rescue efforts of animals in the Colorado Rockies, featuring a segment focused on Pet Power Kids’ mission to save older shelter dogs and cats who are unlikely to be adopted and face euthanasia.
McNichol is an active philanthropist and a successful real estate developer. Later this year, he plans to return to the entertainment industry. After stepping away from Hollywood to raise his children, he is now re-entering television and film, with his sister Kristy McNichol supporting him as needed.
His two-decade hiatus and the anticipation surrounding his return have kept demand high for his autographed photos, which sell for $300.
During his time away from California, McNichol lived in France with his wife and children while occasionally performing rare concerts. This year, he is releasing a new CD titled "Eco Warrior" under Aurora Entertainment's Ecology Music Group (EMG), donating part of the proceeds to charity. He is also performing at benefit concerts and distributing a free promotional video DVD to raise ecological awareness and support philanthropy.
Notably, the cult classic feature film "Night Warning," which McNichol starred in alongside Oscar nominee Susan Tyrrell, is set for DVD release. Additionally, a DVD box set featuring McNichol, produced with Roger Corman, was released in 2013 and includes "Smokey Bites The Dust." In 2015, "Escape from El Diablo" was also released on DVD.
