Joshua Caldwell is a skilled director, writer, and producer and an MTV Movie Award recipient, born and raised in Seattle, Washington.
His first feature film, Layover, a French-language story about a young woman stranded overnight in Los Angeles, premiered to sold-out audiences at the 2014 Seattle International Film Festival, where it received a nomination for the prestigious FIPRESCI New American Cinema Award. David Chen of /Film.com praised it as "a beautiful, moving, wistful film." Scott Beggs of FilmSchoolRejects.com described it as "a beautiful antidote for big budget fatigue" and "a beautifully mature work from a promising young director."
He directed the feature Be Somebody for Paramount Pictures and Studio 71, the inaugural season of the Hulu drama series South Beach, and the MarVista Entertainment thriller Negative, starring Katia Winter (Blood and Treasure) and Simon Quarterman (Westworld).
His most recent film is the crime thriller Infamous, featuring Bella Thorne and Jake Manley.
Beyond his feature films, Joshua has directed several notable short films, including Dig, which tells the story of a young Holocaust survivor who confronts the Nazi responsible for his family's death twenty years after fleeing Europe. The film stars Mark Margolis and Aaron Himelstein and was an Official Selection at multiple festivals nationwide.
Another short, Resignation, explores a world where Superman has abandoned his cape and turned his back on humanity. It was featured on Kotaku.com, GeekTryrant.com, and ScreenRant.com, described as a film "handled smartly with a strong script, nuanced performances, and a clever twist." Joshua and the film's creators participated in a panel at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con.
Before starting his directing career, Joshua worked as an executive for CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker. Called the "best kept secret in Hollywood" by Zuiker, Joshua managed several high-profile digital projects, including producing Cybergeddon, an online global motion picture event for Yahoo! He also wrote, directed, and produced all narrative ancillary content for Cybergeddon's immersive website.
Joshua managed Dare to Pass's collaboration with BlackBoxTV, one of YouTube's premium channels. He co-produced the Silverwood series and produced Anthony Zuiker Presents. Additionally, he played a key role in Zuiker's digi-novel series Level 26, which includes Dark Origins, Dark Prophecy, and Dark Revelations, by writing, directing, producing, and editing the cyber-bridges for the trilogy's final installment, Dark Revelations.
Joshua lives in New York State with his wife Danielle, son Austin, daughter Everly, and their rescue dog Hadley.
