Biografia
Born in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Buxton was raised in Larchmont, New York. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and a Master of Science from Syracuse University. Following his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he worked as a producer-director in local television in Buffalo, New York, and Chicago, Illinois. He then launched a performing career as a stand-up comedian, TV host (notably on Discovery '64 in 1962 and Get the Message in 1964), and stage actor in productions such as Brigadoon, Bye Bye Birdie, and The Tender Trap.
His television writing, producing, and directing credits include The Odd Couple (1970), Happy Days (1974), and Mork & Mindy (1978), among many others. He created the Peabody Award-winning NBC series Hot Dog (1970), starring Woody Allen and Jonathan Winters. As a film and television actor, Buxton appeared in Overboard (1987), Beaches (1988), Frankie and Johnny (1991), Face of a Stranger (1991), With a Vengeance (1992), and Roommates (1994), as well as numerous series and specials. He wrote and provided voices for Woody Allen's What's Up, Tiger Lily? (1966) and has contributed cartoon and commercial voices to countless projects.
