Deon Gibson is an accomplished filmmaker and creative whose work bridges the vibrant culture of his native Bahamas with the dynamic landscape of the U.S. film and literary industries. Based in Florida since 2001, his career is marked by a steady progression from his early passion for visual arts to groundbreaking achievements in film, television, and publishing. Deon began his journey in the visual arts at BTVI (Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute) in 1994. It was during his time there that he had the unforgettable experience of meeting the legendary Bahamian actor, Sir Sidney Poitier, while the Academy Award winner toured the school. He expanded his technical skills in the U.S., studying Graphic Design and Photography at Reminting College in 2001. His filmmaking career started as a Production Assistant (PA), building a comprehensive foundation that eventually led to his current role as an acclaimed writer, director, and producer.
Groundbreaking Achievements: Seven Feature Films: Deon and his team have produced a total of seven feature films, many of which have received industry recognition and awards for acting, directing, and creative excellence.
National Distribution: Deon is one of a handful of Bahamians to write, produce, and direct a film distributed on a major global platform. His debut film, An Encounter With The Messiah, was distributed across the U.S. by Walmart and Sony Home Entertainment and streamed on Amazon Prime.
Series History: He became the first from The Bahamas to write, produce, and direct a TV series on a major streaming platform. His hit series, Church Folks, premiered on Amazon Prime Video and has since been featured on Apple TV+, Fox Soul, and Tubi. The series was nominated for multiple awards at the International Christian Film Awards, including Best New Series and Best Screenplay.
Beyond his directorial work, Deon is an accomplished author and photographer with published works. His book, An Encounter With The Messiah, is available to readers on Amazon.
Deon and his team are focused on the development of new creative projects, including the highly anticipated Season 2 of Church Folks.
