Biografia
Donato Rotunno, a 1992 graduate of the Louvain-la-Neuve Institute of Broadcasting Arts (IAD), co-founded the production company Tarantula Luxembourg in 1995 and its sister company Tarantula Belgium in 1996.
Tarantula Distribution was established in 2011. In 2013, he collaborated with other Luxembourg producers to manage the Filmland Studios in Kehlen, Luxembourg. An EAVE graduate and member of the European Film Academy, he has served as President of the ULPA (Luxembourg Union of Audiovisual Producers) since March 2023.
His career began with the feature film "A Piece of Sky" by Bénédicte Liénard, which competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. Since then, he has produced and co-produced over 50 feature films regularly showcased at major festivals, including "Private Property" by Joachim Lafosse, "A Wedding" by Stéphane Streker, "Fire Will Come" by Oliver Laxe, "Two of Us" by Filippo Meneghetti, "Blanquita" by Fernando Guzzoni, and "Holly" by Fien Troch.
Alongside producing, Donato Rotunno pursues a career as a documentary and fiction film director. His directorial debut was the graduation short film "Nebbiolo Rosso," which won best short film at the Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur. He has directed documentaries addressing pressing issues in Luxembourg society such as immigration and political influence, while also creating hybrid works blending contemporary art.
His first feature film, "In a Dark Place," earned the best artistic contribution award at the Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis in 2007. His second film, "Baby(a)lone," an adaptation of Luxembourg author Tullio Forgiarini's novel "Amok," was selected for numerous international festivals and represented Luxembourg in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 88th Academy Awards. His third film, "Io sto bene," starring Marie Jung, Renato Carpentieri, and Sara Serraiocco, achieved worldwide success and represented Luxembourg at the 94th Academy Awards.
