Born in London on January 14, 1965, to Jamaican parents, Slick Rick, whose real name is Ricky Martin Lloyd Walters, stands as the most successful British-American rapper in music history. His brilliant wordplay, effortless storytelling, sharp pop-culture references, and memorable one-liners have earned him the reputation as the wittiest rapper ever.
Launching his career in the late 1980s, he released iconic tracks like "Children's Story," "La Di Da Di," and "Hey Young World." Slick Rick is renowned for his distinctive British accent and pioneering storytelling style. His music has been widely sampled and referenced by artists including TLC, Talib Kweli, Eminem, Mos Def, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys, and many others—many of these renditions becoming major hits.
