Margarita Jimeno is a Colombian-American Emmy-nominated director. Her award-winning films have been featured at numerous festivals, including Göteborg, AFI Fest, Munich Film Festival, and CPH:DOX, and have been internationally distributed by companies such as Kino Lorber International and MUB, across theaters, online platforms, and television. She has received multiple accolades at film festivals, including the Sound and Vision Award at CPH:DOX and the US Work in Progress Grand Jury Award at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival.
In 2008, Jimeno debuted as a director with the feature music documentary Gogol Bordello Non-Stop, which premiered at the Göteborg Film Festival and earned several awards during its festival circuit, including a Special Mention for the Sound and Vision Award at CPH:DOX. The film was acquired by Kino Lorber International for North American distribution, UK MUBI, and Netflix. It is also available on Amazon and Vimeo on demand.
Her first narrative feature, Grind Reset Shine, which follows an artist's transition from the elite art scene to a strict religious community, won the US Work in Progress Award at the 2016 Champs-Élysées Film Festival in Paris. The film is distributed by Kino Lorber International and streams on Kino Now.
Between 2014 and 2019, Jimeno directed, produced, and filmed the documentary series Working In The Theatre. The series earned Daytime Emmy nominations in 2017 and 2019 for directing and documentary series, received several Webby Award nominations, and won multiple silver and bronze Telly Awards in the documentary category.
Margarita is a graduate of The School of Visual Arts, the Berlinale Talent Campus, and Werner Herzog's inaugural Rogue Film School.
