James Reyne is a highly acclaimed musical artist in Australia, recognized both as a successful solo performer and as the charismatic lead singer of Australian Crawl. Born in Lagos, Nigeria in the late 1950s, he moved to Australia in the early 1960s. His music career took off in the 1980s with the formation of Australian Crawl, a band that sold over 2 million albums worldwide. After the band disbanded in 1986, Reyne launched a thriving solo career that continues today. His brother, David Reyne, is a well-known Australian TV actor, and his son, J.R. Reyne, appeared on the popular Australian drama Neighbours (1985). Recently, Jaime-Robbie left Neighbours to pursue music, and with talent reminiscent of his father, success seems likely. Reyne's first acting role in the mini-series Return to Eden (1983) was secured by his former manager, Glenn Wheatley, though Reyne was dissatisfied with his performance, leading him to decline future movie roles, except for a brief part in the Tina Turner biopic. As a solo artist, Reyne has sold over a million albums. In 1992, his duet with James Blundell, "Way Out West," reached No. 1 in Australia. He also recently performed alongside John Farnham, Kate Ceberano, and Human Nature at Farnham's 50th birthday concert and continues to perform solo.
