Fernando Grostein Andrade is a Brazilian filmmaker and media entrepreneur based in Los Angeles, represented by Untitled Entertainment. In 2019, he completed the film "Abe," featuring Noah Schnapp (Stranger Things), Seu Jorge (City of God), and Mark Margolis (Breaking Bad). "Abe" was selected for 27 festivals, premiered at Sundance, and won the Children Jury Award at the 31st Kinder Film Festival in Vienna, as well as the Audience Award for Best Narrative at the Washington Jewish Film Festival. The film was scheduled for digital theatrical release in 2020.
He created and directed "Quebrando o Tabu," a documentary exploring alternative approaches to the war on drugs, including interviews with six heads of state such as Jimmy Carter and Fernando Henrique Cardoso. The documentary was distributed in 22 countries and expanded into a two-season, 10-episode TV series, with Fernando as showrunner. It received the Mipcom Diversify TV Excellence Award in Cannes. "Quebrando o Tabu" also evolved into an online media channel with 10 million followers, becoming Brazil’s largest human rights internet platform and boasting the highest Facebook engagement rate among Brazilian media outlets.
Fernando was a co-creator of "Carcereiros," the 2017 Miptv award-winning drama series, directing five episodes. He served as a jury member for "É Tudo Verdade" and the Netflix Prize for Brazilian cinema. He revived a theater group formed by inmates at a maximum-security prison called "Do Lado de Cá," which was later involved in multiple productions.
He co-founded "Mapa Educação," a youth movement advocating for quality public education in Brazil, and directed the documentary "Wandering Heart," featuring Caetano Veloso along with special appearances by Pedro Almodóvar, Michelangelo Antonioni, and Gisele Bündchen. Fernando’s YouTube coming-out video garnered 250,000 views and sparked widespread online discussion about acceptance in Brazil.
Additionally, he is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders, a group that includes French President Emmanuel Macron and Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin. Fernando is also a columnist for two of Brazil’s leading media outlets: Folha de São Paulo and Veja.
