Emilio Gómez Muriel was a prolific Mexican filmmaker whose career spanned from the 1930s to the 1970s.
Though primarily recognized for his melodramas, one of his earliest works was Redes (1936), a social cinema project featuring mainly non-professional actors.
He received an award at the 1960 San Sebastian Film Festival for his film Simitrio.
