Garrett Backstrom was born on October 25, 1995, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Elizabeth and Gary Backstrom. Raised in a Christian home, he holds a strong faith. Driven by a passion for filmmaking from an early age, Garrett moved to California to pursue his dreams in filmmaking and acting.
Between 2010 and 2014, he appeared in several films and TV shows, including "Brothers & Sisters" (2011), "Lab Rats" (2012), "Jesse" (2012), "Hello Herman" (2012), "Motel Life" (2012), and "Summer Snow" (2014). Garrett attended Brighton Hall, where he was elected student body president, honed leadership skills, and built lasting connections within the film industry. In 2014, he paused his acting career to study film production at Loyola Marymount University. Over the next four years, Garrett produced and directed various commercials, music videos, and narrative projects. He also acted in two feature films during college: "Late Bloomer" (2016) and "Bad Impulse" (2020). He earned his degree from the School of Film and Television at Loyola Marymount University in 2018.
Following graduation, Garrett helped finance Aaron Sorkin's "The Trial of the Chicago 7" (2020). He is currently producing a feature film with Dutch Hofstetter, written by Howard Klausner and directed by Sean McNamara, inspired by the life of Christian figure George Mueller.
