Maryedith Burrell, raised in Gilroy, California—the garlic capital of the world—is an acclaimed show business professional with a diverse background as a TV star, screenwriter, documentary producer, and director. Trained in theatre, she began her career with performances at ACT San Francisco, LA Shakespeare, The Groundlings, The Second City, and The War Babies. Her acting credits include starring roles in the late-night comedy series Fridays alongside Larry David, the sitcom Throb with Jane Leeves, Ron Howard's Parenthood, and The Jackie Thomas Show featuring Tom Arnold and Roseanne Barr. She also had recurring roles on Seinfeld and Home Improvement, along with guest appearances on shows ranging from Murder She Wrote to The Tonight Show. Her one-woman play, #OUCH!: An Accidental Comedy, was recognized in the New York Times "Top Ten."
Alongside her acting and directing career, Burrell developed her writing talents. She has crafted comedy revues, musicals, and operas for the stage, penned screenplays for major U.S. and European networks and studios, and produced documentaries for National Geographic, The Discovery Channel, and TLC, among others. Serving as Creative Consultant on RAISE HELL: The Life and Times of Molly Ivins, directed by Janice Engel, took her to the Sundance Film Festival in 2019. A comprehensive deal with Disney launched her into script doctoring. As an author, her work has appeared in The Los Angeles Times, Vogue, Rolling Stone, and The Great Smokies Review. Her latest essay, "An Affair To Forget," is included in the best-selling anthology What Was I Thinking? 58 Bad Boyfriend Stories (St. Martin's Press). Now based in Asheville, N.C., and a proud member of Flatiron Writers, Burrell remains engaged in the Southern literary community. She teaches at Western Carolina University and arts conservatories, lectures internationally, and leads public speaking workshops for authors.
