Born in Richmond, VA, Kwame's rise in the entertainment industry has been anything but conventional. His path has been more adventurous than local. At just 16, he began in Musical Theater with his high school's production of Godspell, igniting a lifelong passion for the arts and setting him on a career in entertainment. Naively confident, he believed stardom was imminent, and thus began his journey. After graduating, he appeared in various community theater productions.
Life’s twists soon redirected him when Kwame enlisted in the United States Army in 1995. His pursuit became winding with many crossroads. Committed to serving his country, he spent seven years in the Virginia Army National Guard while earning a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism from Norfolk State University. Unbeknownst to him, these choices would eventually align perfectly with his destiny.
Following college, Kwame eagerly entered broadcast media, starting as a Production Assistant at WVEC Channel 13 in Norfolk, VA. Though performing was no longer his main focus, his passion remained strong. Dedicated to his community, he taught acting and character development to young performers at local recreation centers. A passionate advocate for gender equality, he also led workshops for the Girl Scouts of America Piedmont Region in Chesapeake, VA. As a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., community involvement was central to his life, and he undertook various supportive projects.
Though his personal dreams took a back seat to life’s demands for years, they never faded. Continuing along that winding road, Kwame landed his breakthrough in 2005 as a Voiceover Specialist. Since then, he has lent his voice to countless commercials, PSAs, promotional events, film roles, and acting gigs. In 2019, he founded Rakes Family Enterprises LLC, becoming its CEO and gaining greater control over his career’s direction. Recently, he starred in the critically acclaimed film The Black Walnut, which highlights the impact of prostate cancer in the Black community. He is also a lead voice in the animated series Weird Waters and serves as the voice for the Krystal Burger franchise and the NCAA, among others. Despite the twists and turns of his career, these experiences have woven a rich tapestry of work and promise for the future.
