Michael graduated from USC's School of Theater and the School of Cinematic Arts. He completed professional training at the Groundlings School of Improv and Sketch Comedy in Los Angeles. Michael made his professional acting debut in the independent film The Derby Stallion, starring opposite Zac Efron. He appeared alongside Ezra Miller, Kate Bosworth, Thomas Haden Church, and Demi Moore in Another Happy Day, a film he also produced. Directed by Sam Levinson (Euphoria), the film competed in the Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the prestigious Waldo Salt Award. Michael starred in Cassidy Way with Sydney Sweeney and had recurring roles on several television series, including My Name is Earl, CSI: New York, The Client List, The Mob Doctor, Revenge, Nashville, Hart of Dixie, and American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.
Michael produced and starred in the popular Netflix film Circle, which has developed a cult following; a sequel is currently in development. In 2020, he earned three Emmy nominations for his work on the Amazon series Dark/Web, including a nomination for Best Director.
A fitness enthusiast and thrill-seeker, Michael has skydived, bungee jumped, climbed a glacier in Patagonia, competed in Spartan and Tough Mudder races, and explored caves hundreds of feet underground in New Zealand. He is an avid surfer, practices Muay Thai and kickboxing, is trained in firearms and firearm safety, and recently obtained his motorcycle license.
Michael is also a passionate gamer, film enthusiast, and dog lover. He volunteers with Path: People Assisting the Homeless and Create Now, an organization that curates art programs for runaway and underprivileged youth in Los Angeles.
