Matteo van der Grijn graduated from the Theatre School Arnhem in 2007.
Following his studies, Matteo began his career with the performance of Hamlet, staged by the Theater Company and directed by Theu Boermans. He also featured in several National Theater productions, including Levende Doden, De Prooi, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. In the 2010/2011 season, Matteo was the first actor to portray the lead role in the musical Soldier of Orange, directed by Theu Boermans. Later, in 2014/2015, he appeared at the National Theater in Blauwdruk Voor Een Nog Beter Leven, directed by Johan Doesburg. His leading roles also include Fatal Attraction and Indecent Proposal.
Matteo has appeared in numerous television series such as Levenslied, Nieuwe Buren, Adem In - Adem Uit, Klem, Celblok H, De Mannen van Dokter Anne, Keizersvrouwen, DNA, and Oogappels. Additionally, he has made guest appearances on Het Klokhuis.
His film credits include Tuscany Wedding, Daglicht, Of Ik Gek Ben, Mannenharten, The Resistance Banker, Kapsalon Romy, Hartenstrijd, and Gek Van Geluk.
Matteo played a notable role in the international series Ted Lasso, with The New York Times praising his scenes with Hannah Waddingham as some of the season's best. He also appeared in Tribes of Europa and the international film The Goldfinch.
Recently, he featured in the film Zwanger & Co and the series Hockeyvaders, Golden Hour, and Het Herriehofje.
Beyond on-screen and stage performances, Matteo is sought after as a voice actor. He is the regular voice for Lexus and Gillette, has voiced characters in animated films such as Sing 2, The Croods, Lightyear (as Buzz Lightyear), Lyle Lyle Crocodile, and narrates audiobooks and audio tours, including the Amsterdam Light Festival 2022.
Matteo is fluent in Italian and Dutch and speaks English very well.
