Steven Hoban was born in Ottawa, Ontario, in 1964 to Kenneth and Francoise Hoban. Due to his father's work with the Canadian Foreign Service, he spent his childhood living in various countries. Before becoming a film producer, Hoban served as VP of business affairs at a completion bond company and later co-founded and managed an animation studio and R&D center for Imax Corporation. His production portfolio includes Imax® 3D films, feature films, shorts, and animated projects.
Hoban is the founder of Copperheart Entertainment, a film and television production company based in Toronto. His production credits include numerous successful feature films, the Academy Award®-winning computer-animated short RYAN, the cult trilogy GINGER SNAPS, Vincenzo Natali's HAUNTER starring Abigail Breslin, and SPLICE featuring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley. His recent films include the action thriller WOLVES, starring Jason Momoa and Lucas Till, written and directed by David Hayter (X-MEN, WATCHMEN); the sci-fi horror DEBUG, written and directed by David Hewlett (Stargate Atlantis); and A CHRISTMAS HORROR STORY, which Hoban co-directed and starred William Shatner.
In television, Hoban’s latest production is the urban horror series DARKNET, created alongside Vincenzo Natali. He is also developing several projects, including the HBO drama SHAKEDOWN with James Ellroy and David Fincher, and INCARNATE, a supernatural horror series executive produced by Clive Barker.
Hoban continues to produce films through his Toronto-based company, Copperheart Entertainment.
