Rosa (Maria Rosaveline Carin) was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is the eldest of four siblings and a first-generation American of Filipino descent. Her father has Filipino, French, and Cree heritage, while her mother is of Filipino and Spanish descent. Her father, a medical doctor, and her mother, a pharmacist, immigrated to the U.S. After becoming citizens, her father initially served as a Navy Captain before transferring to the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel, retiring with the rank of Colonel.
Following her father's military retirement, Rosa's family settled in Talihina, Oklahoma. She graduated from high school there and attended St. Gregory's University and The University of Oklahoma. After completing her education, she taught Pre-K for six years before becoming a stay-at-home parent during her children's middle and high school years. Encouraged by friends, she entered the entertainment industry and was captivated after being cast in the feature film Serving Sara (2002).
Alongside film and television, Rosa hosted shows on the local station KERA, including programs like "Hot On Homes." She has appeared in music videos, starred in independent films, and featured in numerous commercials and print ads.
In early 2013, she founded her own production company, Mystisa Films. In 2014, Rosa produced, wrote, and directed her debut film, Damage-Joy (sha-den-froi-de), which toured the film festival circuit. By the end of 2014, the film was an official selection at six festivals, received nine nominations, and won five awards.
She currently lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband, where they have raised two children.
