Woods, born and raised in Houston, Texas, graduated from Lamar High School.
Demonstrating a passion and talent for painting and drawing, he earned a two-year scholarship to the Texas Academy of Art.
After completing his studies there, he spent a year at the University of Houston majoring in Art History.
During this period, he also worked evenings for the Houston Post, a prominent newspaper in Houston at the time. While attending art school, he was promoted to editorial artist, working exclusively in the paper's editorial department.
Subsequently, Woods served in the U.S. Army. After scoring in the highest percentiles, he was selected to train as a nuclear weapons specialist at the Defense Atomic Support Agency at Sandia Base, New Mexico. Following his training, he led a team responsible for maintaining and servicing warheads for Nike Hercules missile systems throughout the remainder of his service.
Upon leaving the military, he earned a diploma in computer programming from E.C.P.I. and briefly worked in data processing for the City of Houston.
Seeking to advance his art career, Woods and his wife sold their possessions and relocated to Paris, France, where he worked as a fine artist for several years.
During this time, he also contributed travel articles to his former newspaper. Afterward, he returned to Houston and eventually opened a studio and art gallery there.
After a few years, he closed the gallery and left Texas, maintaining studios in Austin, Florida, and Santa Fe over the following decade.
In the 1980s, he moved to Los Angeles. While continuing to paint, he pursued acting, quickly earning his SAG membership and joining AFTRA a year later.
Over the ensuing decades, he participated in over 500 productions across all facets of the entertainment industry: principal actor in film, television, industrials, and commercials; stand-in and body double for numerous A-list actors; production assistant; stuntman; background artist; and more.
Additionally, he wrote and produced several plays and published his first novel, a young-adult science fiction book, in 2014.
Now semi-retired in New Mexico, he continues to paint and occasionally appears in productions around Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
