Hristos Giannakopoulos was a Greek playwright, screenwriter, and journalist, largely self-taught in theatrical writing. He debuted as a playwright in 1929 and, until 1939, collaborated with various writers on comedies, revues, and operettas. Beginning in 1939, he worked closely with Alekos Sakellarios on revues, comedies, songs, and screenplays, including Oi Germanoi xanarhontai... (1948), A Hero in His Slippers (1958), A Young Miss... Aged 39 (1954), Thanasis, the Politician (1954), A Ripple in the Pond (1952), Woe to the Young (1961), among others. He authored the comedies Oi megaloi kai oi mikroi and Mia tsouknida stis violetes. His work portrayed the Greek petty bourgeoisie with its contradictions, illusions, and dilemmas. Giannakopoulos was known for the immediacy of his writing, sensitivity, optimism, and intimacy.
