Hossein Nuri is an Iranian filmmaker, playwright, and painter whose work has developed independently of the category of disability, engaging instead with the wider professional world of cinema and theater. Although a life-altering episode in his youth left him without the use of his hands and legs, Nuri has consistently positioned himself-and been received-as a creator whose standards, ambitions, and output belong alongside established professional filmmakers and theater directors. He began his artistic career in painting and theater before expanding into audiovisual work through television play productions, documentaries, and feature filmmaking. His adaptations of his own plays-such as 'The Circus', 'The Wayfarer', and 'Witnesses'-brought his precise, performance-centered directorial approach to broader television audiences. He also contributed to major screenwriting projects, including work on the the widely viewed feature and television series 'Saint Mary'. His feature film 'My Arms Flew' (2019), shaped by autobiographical elements, has been screened internationally and earned recognition at festivals across Asia, Europe, and North America. Nuri has also taken part in the global film community as a jury member at events such as the Jaipur and Delhi International Film Festivals, and as Program Director of the 2024 Red Rock Film Festival in the United States. Known for his meticulous attention to performance, rhythm, and visual detail, Nuri continues to work across film, theater, and painting. His career stands as an example of artistic practice defined not by limitation, but by professional rigor and a sustained commitment to craft.
