Joe "Tuna" Centrone is a New York seafood legend, known in New York's food industry for his charismatic personality, charming wit and cooking skills in any kitchen. Born and raised in Woodside, Queens, New York, Joe grew up in a working class neighborhood that consisted of mostly Irish, German, and Italian immigrants. The child of a large Italian family, Joe spent a lot of time watching & helping his grandmother prepare food. The lessons he learned in his grandmother's kitchen and with his father at his Luncheonette in Queens have remained with him for life.
During the 1980's Joe became a well known seafood purveyor and eventually became known in New York as Joe "Tuna". Joe's career as a purveyor was successful but eventually took a toll on his health and in 2005 he decided to undergo lap-band surgery. After the surgery, he began a regiment of working out daily and eating healthy foods and eventually lost 90 pounds. After losing the weight Joe started promoting healthy eating everywhere he went and eventually caught the attention of his long time friend and show producer Cesar Villacis De Lucia. Together Joe and Cesar produced a reality style cooking show based in the New Fulton Fish Market in the Bronx called "Cooking with Joe Tuna".
"Cooking with Joe Tuna" was picked up by NYCTV in 2009 and first aired in 2010. The show was rated NYCTV's #1 cooking show in 2010 and still attracts fans all over the world today via the web.
