Born in York, UK, on 13 May 1975, he served in the British Army Reserves until the age of 19. He then joined the Regular Army and trained as an Infantry Platoon Commander at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1995. After leaving the military, he pursued a career in agricultural and industrial management, as well as outdoor adventure activities including scuba instructing, abseiling (rappelling), snowboarding, cliff jumping, and more. He began working in the film industry in 2000.
He received LA SWAT training and Homeland Defence Tactical Pistol and Carbine training in the US in 2009. He is a firearms instructor in the UK, a drill instructor in both the UK and US at competition level, a PADI Scuba Dive Master, an SSI Scuba Diving Instructor, Rope Access Level 1 certified (Raafa), a snowboarding guide, military abseil (rappelling) instructor, quad bike trail leader, cliff jumper, forklift truck operator, holds a Code 10 truck licence with PDP, paraglider, skydiver (Cat 8/A licence), horse rider, stunt driver, trampolining and mini tramp enthusiast, strong swimmer, rock climber, skier, among many other skills.
