James Tamburino is an author, screenwriter, producer, and creative executive whose work lives at the intersection of character-driven storytelling and high-stakes, real-world drama.
First and foremost a writer, Tamburino’s latest project, The Call: The David Ayres Story, marks his breakout feature and signals his arrival in the prestige biopic space - an emotionally grounded, true-story centered on resilience, identity, and second chances. His recent producing and writing slate continues that trajectory. Tamburino serves as Executive Producer and earned a Story By credit on the action-thriller East of the River, produced by Gloves Up Entertainment and Latos Entertainment and slated for a 2027 release. Also set for 2027 is the sports drama feature Honor, which includes a Page 1 Rewrite by Tamburino and went into production with Tadross Media Group and Astro Lions Pictures in late 2025. Another personal project, Senior Year, a true sports drama rooted in the very first screenplay Tamburino ever wrote-for-hire, was originally produced as a documentary in 2010 and is now heading into full-scale feature film production with MCM Studios in 2027.
Tamburino’s work-for-hire slate spans a wide range of film and television projects across genres and formats. He co-wrote and co-produced John A. Gotti’s WITSEC Mafia docu-series and worked as Assistant Writer to legendary director John McTiernan (Die Hard, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Hunt for Red October) on a feature screenplay. He also developed the treatment for a Kurt Angle biopic and partnered with former NHL All-Star Bobby Ryan to shape Ryan’s powerful story of resilience into a memoir, screenplay, and potential series. In 2020, Tamburino was hired by Los Angeles Lakers President Jeanie Buss to co-write a feature/series treatment chronicling the rise and fall of Roller Hockey International -the first-ever professional roller hockey league.
Earlier in his career, Tamburino co-wrote and co-produced the horror-thriller The Curse of the Clown Motel, starring Tobin Bell, and built a strong foundation in development and production through Co-Producer and Creative Executive roles across multiple film and television projects. His years working with Tadross Media Group proved to be a hands-on education, providing coverage, shaping scripts, and supporting productions - ultimately paving the way for his transition into full-time writing and producing.
Tamburino’s writing journey began in 2007 with Senior Year, and in 2012 he was hired by Tadross Media Group to write Mermaid Avenue, an action-drama biopic based on tattoo legend Crazy Philadelphia Eddie.
He currently has multiple projects in pitch, option, and active development. Tamburino is presently unrepresented.
