Oscar-winning Danish director Laurits Munch-Petersen was born on July 19, 1973, on the island of Bornholm. He graduated from the prestigious National Film School of Denmark in 2003 with "Between Us," which won 14 international awards, including an Oscar, making it the most awarded film from the school to date.
Laurits has written and directed numerous award-winning documentaries, TV series, feature films, music videos, and commercials. His feature film debut, "Ambulance" (2005), was remade in 2022 by renowned Hollywood director Michael Bay (Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Transformers), starring Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain, Nightcrawler, Nocturnal Animals). Laurits' second feature, the surreal thriller "Over the Edge" (2012), introduced Danish star actress Danica Curcic and was nominated for a Robert Award. His third feature, "Shadow of a Hero" (2015), which tells the story of his own family, received a Bodil nomination and won several international awards.
Laurits has lived in Mexico and Spain but currently resides in Copenhagen. He has three daughters who have appeared in many of his films, including the popular TV series "On the Road with Dad." He is currently working on the TV series "Crasher," based on Søren Kierkegaard's "The Seducer's Diary," and his upcoming feature film "Pink Dad," scheduled for filming in the Faroe Islands in 2024.
