Saul portrayed Caesar in the 2005 RSC production of Julius Caesar at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith.
In 2006, he took on the roles of The Knight and The Merchant in the RSC's production of The Canterbury Tales, directed by Greg Doran, Jonathan Munby, and Rebecca Gatward, which was performed in Stratford, on tour, and at The Gielgud Theatre in London.
In 2007, Saul played Brabantio in Raz Shaw's Othello at The Salisbury Playhouse; Danforth in Patrick Mason's The Crucible at The Abbey in Dublin; and Corin in Sam West's As You Like It at The Crucible, Sheffield.
In 2008, he appeared as Alfred in Killing Faith, a new four-hander directed by Tony Milner at the Devonshire Park Theatre, launching the Eastbourne Season. He also played Polonius and the First Gravedigger in The Stafford Shakespeare Festival’s Hamlet, directed by Bill Buckhurst, with Joseph Milson as Hamlet.
In 2009, Saul toured nationally as Arthur Birling in An Inspector Calls.
Earlier, he featured in Jonathan Kent’s production of Oedipus at The Royal National Theatre, starring Ralph Fiennes and Alan Howard, which concluded in January 2009.
In October 2010, Saul performed as the Headmaster in Jamie Glover's production of John Mortimer's Voyage Round My Father at the Salisbury Playhouse. That year, he also played the lead role of Mr Lovely in Kerry Hood's My Balloon Beats Your Astronaut, directed by Elly Green at The Tristan Bates Theatre, and appeared in On Racing Hill by Anthony Milner at The Brighton Dome, directed by Tony Milner.
