Dale Robinette is a still photographer, actor, playwright, and guest film lecturer. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, to a young single mother, he was later adopted by the Robinette family. He grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa, before his family relocated to Colorado, where he attended Englewood High School. Dale earned a football scholarship to the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he majored in American Civil War studies and Dramatic Arts.
His passion for theater led him to New York City, where he studied under Sanford Meisner at The Neighborhood Playhouse. Dale starred in the title role of The American Place Theatre's production of "The Kid," portrayed Hal in William Inge's revival of "Picnic," and played Chance Wayne in Tennessee Williams' "Sweet Bird of Youth" at the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival.
In New York, he had the privilege of working with top fashion photographers such as Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Maureen Lambre, and acclaimed TV commercial director Steve Horn. He was also under contract with NBC and CBS for their daytime soap operas, "The Doctors" and "Search for Tomorrow."
Balancing careers on both coasts proved challenging, but Dale ultimately found his calling during a snowy December road trip from the East Coast to the West in a 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser convertible, mostly in four-wheel drive, accompanied by a small kitten, a Pekingese puppy, and a cat. Since then, Mr. Robinette has made his living as a photographer.
