Jim was born in Ohio to James and Iantha Nieb. A natural performer, he has been working consistently since 1991 as an actor, comedian, impersonator, and variety entertainer. Throughout his career, he has taken on a wide range of roles, from films and television to Shakespeare in the park and fire-eating at renaissance festivals. Jim has taught and performed improvisation since high school and was a longtime member of the comedy improvisation group ComedySportz in Washington, DC, as well as part of The Society improv in Los Angeles.
With his diverse experience, Jim has become one of the most adaptable actors in the field. In 2004, he relocated to Los Angeles to live and work. Two years later, in 2006, he had the honor of performing for the USO at various military bases in Bosnia and Kosovo. Since moving to LA, he has collaborated with notable industry figures such as Clint Eastwood, Pete Farrelly, and JJ Abrams. Jim has also made multiple appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, participating in a variety of sketches and serving as a principal actor in their popular "How Long" segments. Additionally, he took part in the audience prank during the 2017 Oscars, playing the role of a Hollywood tour guide.
Jim trained at The Groundlings and the esteemed Playhouse West Theatre and School in North Hollywood, founded by Robert Carnegie and co-founded by Jeff Goldblum. In 2009, he joined the teaching staff there, instructing Meisner technique classes and founding the original Playhouse West Comedy Program (later renamed The Zoo Comedy), which initially emphasized comedy improvisation.
In the summer of 2017, Jim began teaching on-camera acting at the Margie Haber Studio in West Hollywood, California. By spring 2019, he expanded his role at the studio to include improv instruction.
