Maarten Olaya is a Peruvian-born actor based in Philadelphia and New York, known for layered, restrained performances that leave a lasting echo. Trained in the Meisner technique, he brings a grounded, instinctive approach to his characters - often using silence and stillness as powerful tools on screen.
He made his directorial debut with ARiSEN (2015), which was later released on Amazon Prime. In 2025, Olaya returns to the screen in a lead role he also wrote for the upcoming film LOWLiGHT - a ghostly, film industry-insider drama exploring legacy, surveillance, and erasure behind the camera.
He has shared the screen with acclaimed talents such as Jason Segel and Sally Field, and continues to approach each project with humility, intensity, and a deep respect for the craft, stating in an interview "I remain humbled, no matter who my co star happens to be."
Most recently, Olaya appeared opposite Brazilian ActorWagner Moura (Narcos, Elite Squad) in Ridley Scott's Apple TV series Dope Thief, describing the role as "an experience I will surely not forget."
Balancing performance with storycraft, Olaya gravitates toward characters that challenge perception - whether on set or in the shadows between.
Latest: This summer, Olaya steps into two new film projects: one directed by Philadelphia's own Jermaine Quick, and another in collaboration with Aaron Dougherty, founder of Random Quality Films, based in Kansas City, MO.
