Julio Ponce Palmieri is an acclaimed writer and filmmaker, recognized with multiple awards. His sci-fi web series, 2012, earned a Webby Honoree distinction in the highly competitive Drama category at the 16th Webby Awards. Julio was honored as Filmmaker On The Rise and won Best Screenplay in New York City. His films have received numerous awards and nominations at film festivals worldwide. His innovative work has been showcased at prestigious festivals in Italy, Guatemala, and New York City.
As founder and creative director of Quetzal Productions, Julio has produced, written, and directed three feature films, two web series, and over six short films since 2005. His short films achieved global distribution through Ouat Media and were regularly broadcast on television channels in Canada, the USA, and Guatemala. His feature film Rabid Rage had a successful theatrical run in Guatemala and secured international distribution, screening in Canada, the USA, Guatemala, South Korea, Germany, and Russia.
Julio specializes in adaptations, having successfully translated Machiavelli’s The Prince, Plato’s Myth of the Cave, and The Hubris of Sisyphus to the screen. He is currently developing several TV series, including the crime drama Undercover and an epic mythological-historical story about Gilgamesh. Julio is also experienced in documentary writing, serving as screenwriter and associate producer for the Venezuelan project Simon Bolivar Path To Glory.
His film festival involvement includes jury service at Mexico’s largest short film festival, Cine A Las Calles, including its inaugural edition in Guatemala. Julio has served on the Advisory Board for QIFF, representing both Canada and Guatemala and facilitating the submission of films from these countries to the festival director. He has represented Guatemala with his films at the 17th Latin American Film Festival in Ottawa, Canada, and the XXIV Festival Del Cinema Latino Americano in Trieste, Italy.
