Davi Jay’s passion for acting sparked early, taking hold when he secured his first professional paid role at 16, starring as Jesus Christ in the theatrical production of "Godspell." The stage became his second home over the following decades. He studied Theater and Debate at Texas Southern University, earning the "Outstanding Performer of the Year" award in 1985 at Nationals as part of the T.S.U. Debate Team. After college, Davi Jay appeared in over 40 stage productions, frequently landing lead roles and performing across theaters from New York to California, as well as in his hometown of Houston, TX. In May 2007, after starring as Walter Lee in "A Raisin in the Sun," he shifted his focus to film and television. By September 2007, he secured a recurring role as Papo on Fox’s "Prison Break," followed by playing Marcus Spires in "Friday Night Lights" the same year. Davi Jay has since concentrated on film and TV, enjoying notable roles such as Robinette on HBO’s TREME, the medical examiner in True Detective, and Tony on The Walking Dead, among others.
Though primarily focused on TV and film, his enduring love for music keeps him connected to the stage as the lead singer of the Houston-based Bourbon Street the Band, a position he has held for over 20 years.
In 2011, Davi Jay co-founded Nola's Angels, a non-profit dedicated to raising funds for deserving charities through musical and theatrical events. His smooth crooner voice has been featured at numerous fundraisers supporting organizations such as Trumpets Not Guns, the Musician's Clinic of New Orleans, Jazz Heritage Foundation, Roots of Music, Tipitina's Foundation, and more.
