Sharon Lewis's directing has been widely acclaimed across Canadian broadcasters and major U.S. platforms like HBO, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and FX. Renowned in the industry for her distinctive cinematic style, strong leadership on set, and ability to elicit award-winning performances, Sharon has earned international recognition. Her achievements include six Canadian Screen Award nominations as a Showrunner and Director, and in 2021, she won a CSA for Best Direction of a Factual Series. Drawing on her background as a former actor—most notably for her lead role in the Cannes-nominated film RUDE, Canada's first all-Black above-the-line feature—Sharon refined her directing skills while balancing her acting career in Los Angeles and studying at UCLA. She has directed several award-winning shorts and solidified her reputation with her 2017 feature debut, Brown Girl Begins, positioning her as a prominent director focused on scripted projects featuring Black women protagonists, genre films, Caribbean narratives, and BIPOC representation. Sharon has collaborated with notable talents such as four-time Grammy winner Kelly Rowland, Jason Priestley, Timothy Hutton, Doug Liman, Clement Virgo, and recently directed a film for the Oprah Winfrey Network. Currently, she combines her storytelling and directorial expertise to further establish herself as an exceptional filmmaker. Through her production company urbansoul inc, she continues developing genre features and scripted TV series that spotlight the stories and voices of Black women, Black queer women, and the BIPOC 2SLGBTQ+ community.
