Peter Nicholson is a prominent and highly acclaimed Australian political cartoonist, caricaturist, and sculptor. He is a significant figure in Australian political satire, known for his incisive commentary delivered through both drawings and three-dimensional art. Peter began his cartooning career in the early 1970s, contributing to publications like Nation Review and The Australian Financial Review. He had a significant 18-year tenure at The Age (from 1976 to 1994), where he became a key part of a renowned stable of cartoonists. From 1994 until his retirement from daily cartoons in 2016 (at age 70), he was the editorial cartoonist for The Australian, the national broadsheet. He conceived, designed, and made the caricature puppets for the popular "Rubbery Figures" television series, which aired on the ABC and later on Channel 7's Fast Forward from 1987-1991. The show was famous for its timely satire and merciless lampooning of political figures using these distinctive rubbery puppets.
