Sean Mullin is an acclaimed filmmaker with an MFA in Film Directing from Columbia University and a B.S. from The United States Military Academy at West Point.
His debut feature film as writer and director, AMIRA & SAM, won multiple film festival awards before its 2015 theatrical release by Drafthouse Films. The movie tells the story of an army veteran (Martin Starr) whose unexpected romance with an Iraqi refugee (Dina Shihabi) faces challenges when she risks deportation.
AMIRA & SAM was recognized by Slashfilm as one of the "10 Best Romantic Comedies of the Decade."
Mullin co-wrote and co-produced SEMPER FI, which Lionsgate Films released in theaters in 2019. Directed and co-written by Academy Award nominee Henry-Alex Rubin and produced by Academy Award nominee David Lancaster, the film stars Jai Courtney, Nat Wolff, Finn Wittrock, Arturo Castro, Beau Knapp, and Leighton Meester.
He is currently directing a feature-length documentary about baseball legend Yogi Berra, produced with full support from the Berra family. The documentary will include interviews with Joe Torre, Derek Jeter, Don Mattingly, Mariano Rivera, Joe Girardi, Ron Guidry, Willie Randolph, Joe Maddon, Bob Costas, and Vin Scully.
Before his filmmaking career, Mullin served as an active-duty army officer in Germany. He concluded his military service as a Captain in the New York Army National Guard, acting as a first responder at Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks. During that time, he led soldiers at the site by day and performed stand-up comedy by night.
Mullin currently resides in Los Angeles, where he operates Five By Eight Productions.
