Patrice Rushen is an acclaimed musician and composer, widely recognized as one of the most in-demand artists in the music industry. A classically trained pianist, she rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s with her distinctive blend of jazz, pop, and R&B. During this period, she wrote and recorded the hit track "Forget Me Nots," which has been extensively covered and sampled by other musicians.
Rushen is a four-time Grammy nominee and has composed scores for film and television. She made history as the first female musical director for several major entertainment award shows, including the Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards, People's Choice Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and HBO's "Comic Relief V."
Regarded as one of the premier jazz pianists globally, she has collaborated with notable artists such as Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Prince, Nancy Wilson, Ndugu Chancler, Carlos Santana, Christian McBride, and Lee Ritenour. In addition to being a record producer, she is an award-winning composer of symphonic music, some pieces of which were commissioned by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Rushen serves as the "Ambassador of Artistry In Education" at Boston’s Berklee College of Music and chairs the Popular Music Program at USC's Thornton School of Music.
She is also actively involved with the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, NARAS's "Grammy In The Schools" program, and other initiatives focused on creating music education and mentorship opportunities for underprivileged youth.
