Dany Lavoie is a cinematographer and camera operator known for his storytelling through the psychology of framing, color, light, and movement. With over 25 years of experience across documentary, television, commercial, and feature films, his work is defined by strong visual arcs, meticulous preparation, and a refined sense of atmosphere.
He began his career filming documentaries in remote regions worldwide - from the Canadian Arctic to South America, Asia, and Africa - earning a reputation for working in demanding environments while maintaining authenticity and intimacy on screen.
Dany shot the feature The Island Between Tides, for which he received a 2025 nomination for Best Cinematography in a Feature Film at the Leo Awards. His other feature credits include Human Flight 3D, Nicolas Noël 2, and Fall Back Down. He also served as Second Unit Director of Photography on The Stand and Pachinko.
In 2025, he was Director of Photography on the series Surfbay, where he developed innovative camera movement systems to sustain visual momentum while filming complex surf sequences over open water and high in coastal forest canopies.
He has also operated camera on major network and streaming productions for Apple TV+, Netflix, CBS, and The CW, as well as on the feature Antlers.
