Scottish actor Gianni Capaldi, born in Motherwell to Italian parents, has received multiple accolades, including Best Actor awards from San Diego's IndieFest and Chicago's Amarcord Film Festival. He appeared in the BAFTA-nominated comedy Gasping and was nominated at the 2017 BIFA Raindance for Isolani. Capaldi's passion for acting stems from his family's entertainment roots, with relatives including Scottish performers Jimmy Logan and Peter Capaldi. His debut was in the poker comedy All In. He later played an English gangster in Sony's action fantasy The Cross, starring alongside Brian Austin Green, Vinnie Jones, Danny Trejo, Tom Sizemore, and the late Michael Clarke Duncan. Capaldi also worked with Academy Award-winner Morgan Freeman in Wish Wizard, a short film created in partnership with the Make a Wish Foundation. He had brief TV roles in the HDnet reality series Hollywood Royale.
Capaldi’s first major leading roles were in the Voltage Pictures action crime drama Ambushed with Dolph Lundgren, Vinnie Jones, and Randy Couture. He then portrayed an FBI agent seeking justice for his father's murder in A Certain Justice, co-starring Dolph Lundgren, Billy Zane, and Robert Davi. In the same film, he played the character Vin alongside Cung Le, Lundgren, Jones, and Briana Evigan.
His acting credits include the action drama Crossroads; the romantic drama Don't Pass Me By; Jeremy London's directorial debut Devils Dozen, featuring C. Thomas Howell, Jake Busey, and Eric Roberts; Jason Mewes's superhero action comedy Vigilante Diaries; and the paranormal drama The Between, with child actors Joel Courtney and Isabelle Furhman.
Capaldi filmed the Italian theatrical horror Janara before starring in the BBC comedy short Gasping, directed by Greg Hemphill and featuring comedian Frankie Boyle. Gasping was nominated for Best Short Film at the 2015 Edinburgh Film Festival.
He also starred in Mickey Rooney’s final film, Jeckyl and Hyde, playing the villainous Edward Hyde alongside Oscar-winner Margaret O'Brien, earning numerous awards for the role. Following that, he appeared in Last Man's Club, Astro, and Ulysses with Danny Glover.
In 2015, Capaldi featured in Bite with Costas Mandylor, which premiered at the Festival de Cine de Sitges. He then appeared in the Turkish film Ghosts of Garip and the gothic thriller The Wicked Within, alongside Sienna Guillory, released theatrically in North America through After Dark and 20th Century Fox, with Courtney Solomon as executive producer.
He went on to star in Rottentail, Nightworld—shot in Bulgaria with Robert Englund—and Shadow Within, acting alongside Lindsay Lohan.
Capaldi led six episodes of the series Feel The Dead with Estella Warren, executive produced by Oscar-winners Phillip Goldfine and Nicholas Chartier. He later appeared in River Runs Red alongside John Cusack, Taye Diggs, Luke Hemsworth, and George Lopez; the film was released in the U.S. in November 2018.
Notable projects in Scotland include the folklore epic Robert The Bruce, with Angus MacFadyen, Jared Harris, Daniel Portman, and Zach McGowan, and The Becoming in Kentucky, starring Toby Kebbel. He also filmed an episode of the BBC’s long-running comedy Still Game in Glasgow.
Late in 2018, Capaldi starred in the Christmas-themed My Adventures With Santa alongside Denise Richards, followed by the horror film Circus Road. Subsequently, he appeared in Cranley Gardens, a thriller shot in London by 2018 Berlin Festival winner Raphael Kaplinski.
